J.S. Bach – Cantata 162, at Trinity XX – Smoke and Mirrors

I’m working on the chapter for Trinity XX. But the days and nights of wildfire smoke in the warm and humid atmosphere are taking its toll and slowing me down. It must be wretched further north and in the interior of the province.

BWV 162 has one of those Pauline epistles that insists on the daily application of God’s will as the route to a better place after you leave this one. Ephesians 5:18: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. This does not mean one should switch from wine to bourbon, but as long as the smoke persists, I may make my own interpretation for my own, entirely earthbound, purposes.
