Cantata 2, which is the second in the second Leipzig cycle of 1724, opens with a motetic chorus that is a touch austere, does not always take pity on the singers as they soar more and more on high, and, as usual for Bach, has a remarkable bass line, and, unusually for Bach, has four trombones doubling the voice parts.
