Broken Group Islands, Pacific Ocean at Ucluelet, BC

The Broken Group Islands is a Pacific archipelago of more than 100 islands set in Barkley Sound in Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

The Islands are easily visible from the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet (population just over 1,600), which is located about 300 kilometres northwest of Victoria, on the outer west coast of Vancouver Island, at the western edge of Barkley Sound.

I first came to Ucluelet three decades ago. It is located in a place of great natural beauty and natural tranquility. It has never failed to inspire, and the incomparable views of the Broken Group Islands invariably inspire the most profoundly.

  1. I’ve actually sailed around these Islands with Ken and his son Brent who lives in Ucluelet. They are beautiful as is the entire ocean scenery in those parts. The Orcas are spectacular and so very abundant. We are heading back there in a month or so for a holiday. Thx for posting Hendrik!
