G. and I went out for the day, first to St. Andrews to look at the blockhouse. We lunched pleasantly at the Harbour Front restaurant, and then continued to the Two Meadows Trail, which was quite pleasant to walk, and then drove to the Île Ste-Croix historical site, which had remarkably fragrant wild roses on its grounds. (Here I conceived—or re-conceived—the notion of starting up a periodical.) By then it was mid-afternoon, and we returned to St. Stephen, and began our exploration of the rural roads: Ledge Road, Pomeroy Ridge, Mayfield, Barter Settlement, Little Ridge—all of which did not generate a lot of enthusiasm. Nonetheless, we will continue to explore the acquisition of a second property.
We decided not to travel to Newfoundland till the spring, and instead will go to the Gaspé.
Watched John Ford’s still fine Stagecoach in the evening.
